GROWN FROM AN IDEA
ROTHOLZ was founded in 2009 from a shared vision for contemporary design and a deep connection to art and culture.
The first small-batch collections focused on high-quality unisex essentials made from organic cotton, complemented by hand-printed graphics influenced by art and architecture. The unisex idea remains part of our design language today – many styles are intentionally created beyond conventional silhouettes and designed with different bodies and genders in mind. From these beginnings, ROTHOLZ has evolved its own distinctive design language and a contemporary wardrobe

"The future of fashion is not about making more. It is about making with intention — rethinking material, form and function, and creating pieces worth keeping."
Moritz Baur, Founder & Creative Director

Today, ROTHOLZ brings together clean silhouettes, modern workwear and selected references from past decades. Materiality and tactility remain at the heart of our approach – complemented by functional elements and unexpected details with a subtle sense of humour. Familiar forms are revisited, rethought and placed in a new context.
Our collections and the visual world around them are created in our studio in Potsdam. Here, a small creative team brings together different perspectives and ideas around a shared vision for ROTHOLZ – from the first sketches and materials to the finished collection.
What connects us is the idea of designing clothes beyond the moment. We think about material, form and function as one, creating pieces with a character of their own – contemporary, effortless and designed to remain relevant beyond a single season.

FROM MATERIAL TO FORM
Material is a central starting point in our design process.
Our collections focus on materials such as organic cotton, wool, linen and selected recycled fibers. What matters to us is their character, feel and function – and how a material wears, ages and develops an expression of its own over time.
Our garments are made exclusively in Europe, in family-run manufacturers in Portugal, Germany and Poland. Some of our production partners draw on craftsmanship and expertise passed down through generations. From the first sample to the finished garment, we work in close dialogue with the people who bring our designs to life.
The result is a collection shaped by contemporary design and craftsmanship – considered silhouettes, constructions conceived with longevity in mind and details that are not bound to a single season.
“ROTHOLZ has grown over the years without losing sight of what has always defined us. Shaped by people, encounters and the ambition to create something of our own — something meaningful, and made to last.”
Jan Schönemann — Managing Director

WHAT REMAINS
For us, good design begins with understanding how things are made – and asking why they should be made in the first place.
ROTHOLZ does not follow a fixed formula. We question the familiar, revisit established forms and interpret them in new ways. Influences from workwear, mid-century design, art and everyday culture meet new materials, techniques and creative collaborations.
For us, design also means thinking long term – in the materials we choose, the relationships we build with our production partners and the clothes we create to find a place in everyday life and remain there.
Since 2009, ROTHOLZ has continued to evolve in this way, guided by what still drives us today: curiosity, craftsmanship and a distinct perspective on material, form and function.
